I am taking apart a 80s Hohner made in Korea banjo which reeks of mildew and I suspect is water damaged. I cannot figure out what this screw is supposed to do. Left or Right a half turn snugs it up a little, but this bolt still wobbles, and another half turn brings it back where it was. Picture attached.

Your pics didn't post.....but if you're talking about the screw/bolt going in thru the bottom of the heel.....leave it alone !

If it's the screw in the bottom of the heel; it wiggles because it is bent or broken.
Bent is sorta-okay and the wiggle should away when the coordinator rod is installed; set it to the loose position before/while installing the coordinator rod.

That screw is there as something for the co-ordinator rod to pull against. It's not unusual for them to get bent. When I was naive I thought screw, I'll just remove that. It broke. I finally learnt my lesson when the same thing happened on another banjo. Then I worked out that in most circumstances the screw needs to be left well alone.
