Greetings! I have a 1920 Vega Tubaphone with a 5 string conversion neck. It is obviously luthier made but no markings, other than "Leo" imprinted into the dowel stick.
Any idea who the builder might be?

This is just a guess: But you might check with Leo Coulson, of Intermountain Guitar and Banjo, in Utah, who, after closing his shop and cutting back, still has a significant on-line presence.

Heard back from Leo Coulson: "It’s possible it is one of my necks, but stamping LEO on the dowel-stick
like that just doesn’t sound like me!"
Also from Leo Posch-- ""That actually doesn't look like one of my necks..." and noted differences in how his necks differ from the construction of this neck, including dowel markings he uses and the use of fifth string spike in place of an actual nut.
Really cool that both of them got back to me so fast! Good people for sure.
So, the mystery continues. Leo Posch noted that there might be additional markings on the end of the neck, but that would involve taking it off the pot-- which is above my pay grade.

I wonder what caused the frets to fall out of the end of the fingerboard?
