I have seen these, the several I have seen were actually Remo branded heads (One could see the Remo trademark under the frosting). So they would certainly be alright heads!

I heard from someone, who knew Snuffy well, that he would just use plain old Remo top-frosted heads, but he would spread a thin layer of KILLZ white house paint on the top of it. He would then let it dry and stamp his logo on it. He had a very particular way of doing it, and apparently it's very hard. Nothing was really special about them. That's just what he preferred, and he likely did it because the modern heads of that time had such a thin layer of factory frosting. He probably liked the sound of a thicker frosted head, and found out a way of replicating that.

Huber's website claims they have a deal worked out with Remo to make a thicker frosted head (link below). I have one, I like it. It was the same price as a regular Remo one, so it isn't like it sets you back much to try it out.

taiwan remo heads are just as good ,, heaver frosting and a better crimp.... if you can find them,,,, unless they have changed .

Interesting topic. I do a lot of repairs, restores, setups here. I try and recycle as much as I can, especially heads. For instruments for resale, I clean then spray with a similar product here to Kilz. I current have one on my Wildwood Troubadour ( 2 coats). It sounds nice.
