In the early early black and white films Buck seems to be playing mostly electric guitar. He was hot on that too.
He must have tried EVERY type of "D tuner" on all 4 strings! Except Sonny's Ugly D Tuners, apparently.

Went to shows of Porters and the W M's and enjoyed them all. Saw Buck many times, great showman! Just a thought, if one had to play onstage with Buck, Mac and Curley Ray you should get hazard pay as well, they were all very animated.

I can remember Buck was sometimes advertised as "The young man who does the Twist while he twists the keys on his banjo." or something to that effect. Mac danced and Buck did the Twist.
The time Reno & Harrell appeared on Porter's show, when they played the closing theme, Buck snuck up behind Reno and stole his banjo right off his shoulder and the two of them RAN around the set with Don trying to get his banjo back! I doubt that would have happened with Mr. Earl or Dr. Ralph...

Yes, another banjo picker from Spartanburg, SC. He's in good company with Earl up the road in Shelby, NC, (30 miles away) Don Reno in Buffalo, SC (about 20 miles away) and Bobby Thompson, in Converse, SC, (5 miles away) right next door to jazz guitarist Hank Garland. Must be something in the water around here. Todd Taylor, too, but who's counting?
Buck was recently honored locally by inclusion in the Spartanburg Music Trail:
