I just scored a 1970's 1 owner Penco 5 string resonator banjo with hard case. I do not have pictures to post, but it looks like it has Never been out of the case. Absolutely show room condition... $300.

I know this is nowhere near the ob250 I've been dreaming of, but I think it will be a fun step up from my ac-1r until I win a lottery or rob a bank.
Russ.

soooo,,, Is the rim an archtop or a flathead/top and what style:  bottlecap, fully-flanged aluminum, unflanged aluminum or wood?

stomapicker - Posted - 02/06/2026:  20:46:37

Flathead, fully flanged aluminum, mahogany neck and resonator

Straight neck, good action, no scratches, no wear, tight fret wires.

I've been setting up many of those and most were surprizingly good, especially when compared to some of the more 'accepted' beginner models...

Thank you all very much for replies. I won't have this in hand for another week. It's 80 miles away on nasty winter highways but right where I'm going to see a neurosurgeon. This way I can make the doc visit pay off! (I rented a car for the day as I can't afford to risk our only car driving into known idiot ally squall zones where many are too foolish to slow down in white outs)

Nice, those are the good ones.

The one that I have played (archtop integral full flange) has an easy tone that makes my ears feel good.
