From Greylock to Bean Blossom - Posted - 12/29/2025: 12:41:34
Just a note on some great service that I got from American Made Banjo Company.
I had always ordered my stings for my Hatfield Buck Creek from Arthur. He had a special set made for him by GHS (10-11-13-20-10). Of course, with our tragic loss of Arthur this year, I can no longer order from him. I searched, but could not find this set anywhere else but AMBC. So I ordered 3 sets online. The day I ordered, I got a confirmation of my order as well as a way to track it. A week later (remember Christmas came in between this) I got the strings. They were well packaged.
I have not tried the cryogenic strings before and it will be interesting to see how they sound, play, and last.

Great to know they're still providing good service. I've bought two of their heads, and dealing with them was easy.
Just so you know: 10-11-13-20-10 is the same as GHS PF-190 Americana Cryogenic lights, which I've been using since before the pandemic. When I brought one of my banjos to Mike Munford for fretwork last year, he told me they're what he uses, too.
I believe I hear and feel a difference. And they seem to stay good sounding longer. Maybe you'll like cryogenics, too.

Yup. I've been buying custom sets from Tom for years. Great strings, great service.

Hi Ken,
Yes, but from what I saw on the GHS site the cost was about $9 a set as compared to abouit $5 a set from American Made. The GHS site showed only buying single strings and putting together sets. Now..I may not be doing something right.
It is good to know your confidence in the strings. Thanks.

Google ghs pf-190 strings. Multiple places starting at $5.39. I have used several sets. After playing them, I agree they last longer, but I think I hear a more brittle sound than a standard string. Does anyone else feel they hear this?
