I first learned about Eddy about fifteen years ago and was immediately struck by his style, which was very personal and particularly attentive to the harmonic side of music. Furthermore, his great modesty and willingness to teach, were two great qualities that benefited many banjoists, including myself; not to mention his jazz band, known worldwide for featuring Woody on clarinet. Calling him a banjoist is perhaps too restrictive...it would be better to say musician, teacher, composer, leader. I met him only once, during his tour in Italy: it was a wonderful experience, the kind that only comes from meeting people with such a wonderful character. When I asked if I could sneak into one of his video lessons, he immediately said yes, instead of telling me to go to hell. Eddy passed away a few years ago, but for me, it's like having him before my eyes, forever. R.I.P.

It must have been magical to play with and learn from Eddy. The video you made was very enjoyable. I hope you can post more.

Marco, thank you for your lovely post about the great Eddy Davis, my good friend who enriched my life in so many ways.
During the last years of Eddy’s incredible life, I spoke with him many times, usually on the phone, but sometimes in person. We would spend hours talking about everything because Eddy was interested in everything. No topic or subject bored him. He would go from politics to food to his favorite classical composers to his beloved New York City without pausing, and those weren’t separate conversations. It was all one big one. To Eddy, everything was connected to everything else.
During those talks, Eddy would often bring up this section of the Banjo Hangout. He loved the BHO. He would talk about the various threads, the videos people were posting, the topics . . . everything. Most of his BHO talk was about the banjoists who contributed regularly to the BHO. Marco, your name came up often. He talked about the love and passion and knowledge you brought to your discussions on jazz banjo. Believe me, he was a big fan of yours.
I better stop here. Once I start talking about Eddy Davis, I find it hard to stop. I tend to go on & on. As I said earlier, Eddy enriched my life in all kinds of of ways. I was so lucky to have known him. I think about him every single day, and I guess I always will. Thank you Eddy for all that you did for me, and thank you Marco for creating this thread and for your lovely collaboration. Eddy would have loved it.

Paolo, Eddy loved the way you played, and he loved the way you wrote about music that you loved. He viewed you as a poet.
