I had posted a recent new pot design about a month ago. It has 2"x2" blocks that are concave on one edge and convex on the other. They mate together with a very tight joint that has more surface area than a flat cut beveled joint.
And it is adjustable. I suspect I could use the same blocks to make a 12" rim instead of an 11" one.
I wanted to add some simple reinforcement and came up with stainless steel cable ties. They are large, as you can see.
Not that I am paranoid about joint failure but have been down that road enough, it is cheap, fast insurance.
So, here is the latest. My typical Corian tone ring with drum hoop. I like the accents of brass with steel.
And, Look MA, all the glue joints are fine. Head is tensioned to 90.
Hope to have a neck on it this weekend. Curious to see if the vertical grain offers any sound difference.

I like the aesthetic of the vertical grain, along with the reinforcement band. Looks a bit like a cask. Fingers crossed that this construction will prove sturdy enough.

Just finished this up. It is a 12" pot strung with nylon. After some time, I realized that since i am using Corian for a tone ring and it up to now has just sat on top of the vertical wood rim, I could glue the ring to the rim for extra stability.
I wondered if there would be any issues with tensioning the head. Nothing noted, even before gluing. I forgot to glue it initially.
More to come. I will get it in the hands of a clawhammer player and see how it sounds. It seems pretty good.
