I was in Laramie, Wyoming dropping my daughter off and went into a downtown string instrument store to ogle banjos. A sales person played a song called squirrel hunters that I was amazed at the fingering. I asked my teacher about the song which I wasn’t familiar with and she started teaching me the song this week.
I love the fingering in it. It’s so different and difficult to me with the multiple pull offs and hammer on during a drop thumb. I never understood before how players managed to make so many notes so quickly in clawhammer and I can start to understand that a bit now. I’m very slow at it playing at 20-25 beats per minute on the strum machine. I have learned the first measure over the last week.
