Is there any support for a gospel tunes forum? This could include all types of banjos and playing styles.

I think this idea has already been rejected earlier, but anyhow I think it may be a good idea with "genre related" forums independent of of playing style or number of strings on the banjo. Perhaps also forums for other genres: jazz/blues, children, classical?

Isn't the rule for Gospel "Take off your hat, put down your banjo, pick up a guitar, and capo at the fifth fret"? That's what Earl did, anyways.

Curious, anything about gospel tunes that would make their playing any different from other tunes?

As a generally non-religious person, I wouldn't get too, too excited either way.
Tongue-in-cheek, would such a thread get an exemption from the no religion rule so long as it was not argumentative?
And to get some thread drift in here, I could go for a forum for song writers to exchange ideas and help one another with writing/modifying/adding to songs. ![]()

I would think gospel is not genre-specific enough for an instrument forum, even if we did have genre categories. Most contemporary gospel is derived from soul and blues influences, a lot of old gospel is pure folk. Choral gospel is often based on classical aesthetics. The unifying factor is the religiosity of the lyrics, which isn't relevant to the instrumentation.

The best way to find out the answer to your question is to give it a try.

My 2 cents as I see it would go
forget it Wally --then you would have the doors open for those you wish were not knocking--just keep on posting on the sound off and try to connect with like minded there and on the vid page--
peace

To what end? Do we then start fora for: murder ballads; other ballads; lost love songs; drinking songs; children’s songs; Stephen Foster songs; etc., etc.,? Basing a forum on lyric content moves away from the purpose of the site—which is the banjo, not song themes.

But it's not a bad idea for a new thread, one that could hang around a long time if there was enough interest to keep it going.

I love to sing and play gospel music, but I agree with Bill: it would open the doors to many other types of specific forums and I doubt there would be enough interest to keep it going.
