I've never met Mary's previous, but I've seen pictures, heard stories, and appreciated his art carving & crafts.
Flew to Ireland with her and his ashes, because one of his last wishes was to have them scattered into the bay, over there.
We're home, a bit jet-lagged, but the Cherokee funeral ceremony was nice.
At the Mass beforehand, the priest blessed the ashes, and said nice stuff about how Chuck and Mary were a part of the HISTORY of the town, having been there off and on for maybe fifty years.
And an AMAZING number of people showed up at the huge concrete pier at Clew Bay, Atlantic Ocean, Mulranny, County Mayo, Ireland, to see him off. Well over a hundred, maybe over two hundred.
AND the pipe band, piping him out of the church AND again, onto the boat.
His ashes hit the water, lay there a half minute, as if floating on his back and smiling a good-bye to all the friends and neighbors and beloveds, and then, faded back into the rest of Creation.
Very nice send-off, and my first Cherokee/Catholic blended service, ever.
