Look for the little magnifying glass (or lollypop) on the left hand side of the page under More. Hover over it and it'll bring up a window where you can type in your search.

Not only do you type in your search below the magnifying glass, as Sherry says, you also use radio buttons to direct your search to Forum, Classifieds, Tab or "All other pages."
But here's a tip: You can sometimes get better results by searching on Google and adding: site:banjohangout.org
That directs Google to search only this site. I assume it searches its own indexes from previous crawls, but I really don't know for sure. Anyway, I have used the "site:" function on Google to turn up discussions or comments I know are here but that the Hangout's own search (also powered by Google, I thought) did not produce.
