Hi all,
I may have an opportunity to move to Columbus, OH, for school in the fall. Part of this decision is what the local stringband scene is like. I play both bluegrass and old-time, would love to continue this wherever I end up.
Does anyone have any information about current jams, culture? Google gives some older results; figured I'd ask you all.
Posted this to both the bluegrass and old-time forums so (mods) if that is not allowed, no worries.

Take a look at our calendar and see if there are any festivals, jams or groups in the area you're interested in moving to.
Calendar is located on the left hand side of the page. Hover over "more" and click on Calendar. You can narrow your search by putting in town and state and what you're looking for; i.e., festivals, jams, etc.
Hopefully, someone who lives in that area will post and give you even more information.

I know a boatload of old time players from Ohio, Athens, Dayton and other places. It is happening up there. So keep your eyes and ear open. When you get there find a shop that sells banjos and fiddles and ask questions, they will know.

I'm about an hour from Columbus, so I have some but not all the insights. I do know there is a local Columbus / Central Ohio bluegrass association. They hold monthly concerts and jams, especially during the summer. There's also a recurring weekly jam at one of the local acoustic music shops. I haven't been but one of the guys in my sporadic local jam group has attended. I'm sure there's plenty of old time scene as well.
