I am looking for a clawhammer banjo teacher in the Corpus Christi, Texas area and am willing to drive a good way.

New to banjo and have about a month of taking various paid and free online instruction (eg. Cathy Fink, Todd Collins, Brainjo, Lukas Pool, and others). I really need someone live to check how my banjo is setup and if my playing form is correct.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Have you checked our teacher's list? If not, it's located on the left hand side of the page under Learn, click on find a teacher. Use the advanced search to narrow it to clawhammer, city and state.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Teacher's List. That was the first thing I did and no one shows up within 3 hours of me. Appreciate your reply!

Yep, Texas has a few hubs, but is not exactly a hot spot for the old time clawhammer scene. I am up in Houston and have met a few folks who play banjo, but not too many. There is, however, a Kerrville folks festival every year, I forget when, but it might be coming up and that would be a great resource for you I would think and its super fun. You may want to get in touch with Ben Hodges at Fiddler's Green music shop in Lockhart. Ben is not a banjo player himself, but he usually carries open backs and so his shop is kind of a regional hub for those instruments (I sell the banjos I make there), so he may know of someone in your area. Hit me up if you are ever in Houston, I'd be happy to give you any set up pointers you need. And good luck!

Really appreciate the advice David!  Will contact Ben Hodges and look up the Kerrville festival for sure!

FYI, found a good shop and clawhammer teacher at Clawson's Music in Corpus Christi, Texas. If you are ever in the area and need strings or luthier services they can do it.
