Hello,

I'd like to buy a clip-on mic for my mastertone banjo for playing with a plugged-in country band with drums. I'm looking at these two products: ABS-C vs Myers feather. Does anyone have a recommendation?

I like the way the ABS-C connects to the banjo, but I can't find a pedal that let's me (a) cut the feed for tuning (b) sends the 48 volt phantom power (c) boost the signal for soloing. It looks like you need to plug directly into the board with that unit--it uses an XLR cable.

The Myers feather also looks good and I like that it has the 1/4" jack so you can use it easily with any pedal. But the connection to the banjo looks more delicate and is it loud enough?

Thanks for any advice!

The best option for you is really going to depend on the details of your playing situation, and your budget.

If your band is using drums, amps, and stage monitors at "normal" volumes, I have my doubts about ANY microphone working without significant feedback issues. If, on the other hand, the drummer is using brushes, and everyone uses in-ear monitors and amp simulators, then that is a different story.

If you have enough of a budget, I'd look into an EMG ACB Barrel pickup, and a ToneDexter II. This isn't an inexpensive setup, but would give you much more gain before feedback, great tone (because of the ToneDexter technology, do some research on that if you're not familiar), a mute switch with a built-in tuner, and an adjustable boost switch for solos. This would be a good pro-level setup.

If that is too rich for your budget, something like the LR Baggs Venue DI would give you those same features, except without the ToneDexter processing, but save you a couple hundred bucks.
