Just bumped into a wonderfully executed tenor banjo tune on YouTube -- a cover of the Harry Reser version of "She's The Sweetheart of Six Other Guys," played by Martin Wheatley in 2022.
His technique is flawless. Check out his right forearm, which basically doesn't move; all the movement is in the wrist, as it should be. And there's great economy of movement too, even on tremulos and glisses -- no wasted movement at all.
The musicianship is equally great. Perfect old-fashioned 4/4 rhythm that really pushes the rest of the band along, and the banjo rings out quite nicely. Here's the YouTube link: youtube.com/watch?v=DazxWcHKi70&t=238s ; "Sweetheart" starts at :50 seconds in.
As a plectrum player, it's almost enough for me to start thinking about playing a tenor! SETH

It's also nice to see (and hear) that banjo at the front of the bandstand! It's usually in the second line because it's considered to be part of the rhythm section (and rightly so). Still, it's good to get into the spotlight once in a while. SETH

10 out 10! I have yet to hear a band today that has done that. Martin and 'Spats' are excellent tenor banjo'ists that play the Harry Reser style.
A book every tenor / plectrum banjoist is a must to own: 'The Great Harry Reser' by W.W Triggs. First Edition 1978. An absolute gold mine of info.. Well worth tracking down.

It turns out that Martin Wheatly's 2022 version of this tune is probably a transcription of Reser's original 1928 version, which sounds almost identical and can be heard on YouTube.
In any event, it's a masterful rendition and preserves all the fun and dash of the original. Incidentally, for the more adventurous musicians, the original sheet music is also now available on the Internet, since the tune is now in the public domain, the 95-year-old copyright having expired about a year ago. The original score even has an introductory two-bar vamp, which was customary at that time. SETH
