My grandfathers brother acquired this banjo in his 20s, he was born in 1914. We do not know if it was purchased new or used. I would love to find out more information on it for my grandfather. Original head and my grandfathers brother put his initials on that so that’s what those letters are. Thanks in advance for any help!

Attached are a couple of Liberty banjo items from Musical Merchandise magazine (Nov. 1926 & Jan 1927) regarding your inquiry. I have linked a website with a rather thorough history of the short lived Liberty Musical Instrument Corp of Chicago.vintagedrumguide.com/liberty_history.html

My interest in Liberty banjos is that Slingerland ended up purchasing the Liberty company. Attached is an article about the sale-purchase (8-20-1927) together with a banjo reported or alleged to have been made by Slingerland or maybe assembled by Slingerland with parts from both companies? On this attached banjo the resonator sound holes and the white band around the rim are kind of Slingerland cues. Your banjo, however, appears to have been made by Liberty during its existence not by Slingerland.
