I can't seem to find anything in my search efforts here but I apologize if this has been addressed already.
I can record audio using Windows Sound Recorder. Zoom or Skype wants to suppress any audio from my banjo. (I'm not great, but I'm not THAT bad).
I think I've explored every audio option within the platforms. Is there some streaming/conference app better than others?
Is there some super-secret tic box I'm missing?

How can I get unadulterated sound to someone on the other end of a Zoom or Skype session?

I'm using a Blue Yeti mic on a Windows 11 laptop.

Thanks!

On Zoom, in the upper left corner is a statement " original sound for musicians--off". Just click on the message and it will turn the original sound on. You have to click it every time you log on, as off is the default setting.

The original sound picks up everything just as it hears it, otherwise Zoom tries to take out the highs and lows and clutter to make what it thinks is better. We've been doing a Zoom every Sunday since the early days of Covid. Switching the original sound on does make a difference, not sound studio quality, but better!

In Zoom, have you turned on “Original Sound for Musicians”? If not, the preset filters will recognize your banjo as noise and suppress it. When you activate this setting, all noise suppression will be turned off. You need to go into the Audio settings to choose this option.

I tried both "Original sound for musicians" as well as "Live performance audio (BETA)". Neither seemed to make any difference. I deselected "Automatically adjust microphone volume" as well.

May I know what version of Windows you're running, Jeff?

Thanks.

In Zoom actually two steps are needed to make it work:

1. activate "original sound for musicians" in the settings section once.

Now you are prepared. But be aware, to make it work, in every new meeting:

2. "switch original sound for musicians on" which is shown in the upper right corner, when the meeting has started. By default it is always off, when the meeting starts.

Hope this helps. If not, your microphone might have additional noise suppression capability, which needs to be disabled (usually only with high-end usb microphones, which have extra control software available)

Since I am a banjo player, am I allowed to say that the above explanation for a Zoom recording problem is funny?

They are just trying to help you not get arrested for impersonating a musician. banjered

Could be that the sound is too loud and clipping the microphone. I have had pretty good luck using a microphone thru an audio interface, that way I can gain stage the mic so that it doesn't clip. I think some o f the USB mics have gain adjustment as well without using a separate audio interface. Great excuse for another piece of gear.
