I've been trying a few months now to get a Roland GK-3 MIDI pickup setup working correctly on my Deering Crossfire. Do any of you have experience in this area? For some reason I just cannot get the 5th string to track correctly. I've tried everything I can think of. I'm beginning to wonder if it is because the 5th string is pitched out of sequence. IE, the banjo has it's highest string at the top then goes low to high. A guitar of course is simply low to high. Anyway, I'm about to give up on the entire GK setup idea soon if I can't figure this out. I own both a Roland VG-99 and GP-10. It's the same issue on both devices. Strings 1, 2, 3, 4 track OK. The 5th does not. Thanks for the guidance.

Mamero - I performed with a Roland GK for years on my Crossfire. Tracking the 5th can be tricky. Are you getting any signal off of the 5th, or is it just weak ? Are you using an arched bridge to match the GK's curve ? Have you tried shifting the GK, in other words, putting the 5th string on the other pickup end ?
This, of course, is Bela's set up from years ago, and it always worked for me. Of course, your choice of strings has to have a higher steel content too, for a solid tracking.
Not all digital tracks work equally; The organ, keyboards, saxophone tracks were the best, but on some, very fast picking with get gabbled. I hope this helps.
