We just returned from Johnson City, TN and the first East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Music Camp. My grandkids, 15 and 18, were thrilled! They have been playing banjo for four years and are branching into guitar, mandolin, and dobro. The camp was open to players aged 8 to 19. The director/organizer said the 64 participants were three times as many as they anticipated. The talent displayed was amazing and inspiring. The students from across the US (even an exchange student from Spain) exhibited enthusiasm and ability that indicate bluegrass music has a great future. Instruction included bluegrass history, song writing, singing, and band formation. Activities included a square dance, introduction to a recording studio, and lively jam sessions. If you have young bluegrass musicians in your family or community, I highly recommend this program for your consideration.

I am now too old to attend this (22), and even when I was young enough, I didn't have the means. However, if my kids are as interested in music as I am, I would make a way for them to be able to go to things like this. Great to have such a good turnout.
