Written by Jimmie Tarlton , & recorded by him and Thomas Darby in 1927 for Columbia Records. It became a big seller but Tarlton never pocketed any loot from its sales,, Columbia did as his contract stated. Tarlton was a busker much of his life; the song was about when he was jailed for trying to hop a freight train in Georgia heading for New York.
