Hello,
I am only a few years into learning banjo. I was trying to figure out Hartford's Gum Tree Canoe in Open G and recently learned that I would be better off using Open E tuning. I am willing to try that out, but can I get to a tuning such as this with Medium Gauge strings, or is it recommended that I get thicker strings?
Thanks,
D

Get the Deering Julia Belle set(12, 14, 20w, 24W, 12) so you can tune lower without string rattle.

I've used John Pearse "john Hartford strings" with the same gauge as the Julia Belle. I tune down to D.
