In this video of the Lonesome River Band doing The Old Swinging Bridge, does anyone have an idea of what type of Mic setup the Sammy Shelor is using for the banjo pickup?

Joseph, Thats a very good question and you peaked my curiosity. I started a search, which I'm sure you did as well, of the clip on mics for banjos, and comparing the images with his set up, and I cannot find anything that looks precisely like it. It may be custom. Notice how the mic head is held in a fork like manner with 2 prongs...The DPA 4099 looks like that but the mic head does not look like it, and the mounting is different.
The Beyerdynamic condenser mic has a head similar but not the same. The flange mounting on Sammy's looks very much like the Gold Tone systems, but the mic does not. I'm going to stay on this some more because it certainly sounds great ! Of course, the quality of the mic is only part of the equation in getting a great stage sound. I'd like to know his complete set-up ; mic, ( condenser or dynamic), and what he's using to equalize, etc.
I really like my stage sound now that I switched from many pickup systems to a condenser mic, but its stationary, and I'm used to moving around, like Sammy does going over to Jesse on mandolin. Cheers

PS - Joseph, I just FB Messaged Sammy and I will let you know if I get a response. All the best.

Thanks PKM. No sure if he is using a condenser mike unless he has a built in phantom power pack. I have a Gold Tone mic that was given to me but it is a condenser and I don't like being 'chained' to a cable on stage either.

With the 2 prongs, it look a lot like a Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-on Instrument Microphone.

This is a viable alternative that will send the signal wirelessly AND supply phantom power at the mic.
The U3 is for dynamic mics and the U3C is for condenser mics.
