Hey guys,
It’s been a long time since I’ve logged into the forum. I’ve been playing my guitars a more than my banjo, but I recently decided to try putting Aquila New Nylguts on my Goodtime Americana without any modification.
The strings fit and stay in place just fine. No broken strings in the process. It was relatively straightforward. I could have spent more time tying the knots neatly, but really just wanted to see if it worked and if I liked the sound.
They sound a little more bass heavy
dead in real life than the recording but I’m happy with the result. I’m going to replace the bridge at some point and call it good.

I also put them on my Americana, and am very happy with the sound. I roll up small bubble wrap like a burrito and put it along the rim to make it a little softer sounding. I also like the way both the current popular bridge mutes make it sound.

I really like the Aquilla Nylgut Historic 1892 strings on a basic Goodtime. Joel Hooks convinced Aquila to produce them, and they are for sale from Joel: banjothimble.com/classic-era-banjo-strings. They're a slightly lighter gauge than the regulars and ring truer.
