I recently returned from the Centralia Old-Time Music Campout in Centralia, WA.

It’s a week-long campout dedicated to Old-Time music. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys sharing tunes in a jam setting. There are multiple jams going on all day (and all night) long. One could stay for the whole week and not play in the same jam twice.
I usually return home with at least a few tunes to add to my “To Learn” List. This year “Marjorie’s Favorite” topped my list.
Earl White was the fiddler cited as the source and his recording is the one I used to learn the tune.

The tune is also known as “The Pleasure House Rag”. I’m not sure what Marjorie had to do with the pleasure house, but if anyone has any further information, please educate us.
Larry Warren’s Slippery Hill site cites Mandolinist Kelly Purdue as the source. Listening to his version reveals that it is indeed the same tune.

There are also a number of examples on You Tube featuring the Hammered Dulcimer as the lead instrument. You’ll find the tune they play is similar, but not the same.

I guess ever the teacher, I got my "homework" done for this week's tune. Your tab was already good, Pat, so I went to the cello banjo and found a tuning equivalent to Adam's "SRB" (i.e. fDGCD) and was able to play along with the Earl White recording. The Slippery Hill site isn't working at the moment, so I couldn't hear the other version.
When's your next festival/campout? That sounds like mega-fun!

JanetB Thanks, Janet. That's a wonderful version you provided. I'm amazed at how quickly you're able to turn around and provide us all with an alternative tuning/tune/ and Tab. Sounds great on your Cello.
