I found out that the Long Neck Banjo is essentially a Wire Strung version of the Minstrel Banjo. Both Banjos have a longer neck & they're tuned a Minor Third below a Regular Banjo so instead of Open G Major it's Open E Major. This lower tuning makes it easier to sing the high notes w/o straining your voice. Imagine playing Pete Seeger's music on the Minstrel Banjo because it's tuned like Pete Seeger's Banjo.

My primary "singing banjo" is A Stone, wood rim 25&1/2' scale, Ren head with Aquila Minsterel strings lowered down to open D (dADF#A). I have a spike at the second fret for when the song doesn't need a note above the first string 2d fret.My shoulders thank me. The banjo has a mellow sweet tone which I thinks works better for my voice. Carry ON! banjered

My retirement banjo, instead of a watch from my last university is a 11 inch pot long neck Tubaphone custom made about three years ago by pisgah banjo tuned in open D (dADF#A) as well. See pictures below. It’s a blast to play, yes I am living my modern Pete Seeger banjo dream.

I had a tubaphone once, great tone but too skinny at the fifth fret. I noticed that you could put the capo anywhere on the neck and still get a nice clear tone. Some banjo go dead past the fifth fret or so. Go Tubbys! banjered
