I just listened to the Watson Family CD for the first time a few weeks ago; that has some really nice Doc banjar playing on it. I saw him a few times in the 1970s and the 1980s and it was always a treat.

I had the pleasure of seeing Doc in concert 5 times in the ‘90s and the early ‘2000s in Minnesota and northern Wisconsin. I think he was one of America’s great guys. I’m sure I have about everything he released on LP or CD.

The Krüger Brothers are doing a concert in honor of Doc's 100th birthday tonight in Raleigh. It's sold out, but my wife and and are lucky enough to have tickets. We were able to see Doc play many times and still p[lay his CDs. I think he will be remembered for a very long time.

His singing of Little Sadie gets me every time. An undefinable and infinitely subtle tone of regret and waste and futility, and of course the sublime playing. I try to emulate it in my version but it's soooo far away...
