Have you checked out the fiddle hangout? There is a direct link to it on the home page. I don't go to it much anymore but it is a good resource. I used to fiddle quite a bit but a torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder makes that a problem now. I can only fiddle a couple of times before it starts to bother me.

Many of us do, two fingers in the same glove.

I'm pretty new to it as well. I've mostly learned from videos, looking at my playlist:

I like fiddlehed's lessons on youtube.

He also has a paid website with a more detailed lesson plan.

Red Desert fiddle on youtube has also helped me.

And recently I found Ivonne Hernandez who has nice tune explanations. I especially like her slow/medium/fast play-throughs of tunes after the 'teaching' part. I find looping them is often an easy way to pick up a tune.

If you play the fiddle, it gives you an intimacy with the tunes you don't get with the banjo alone.

As the late, great Bill Martin (NW musician and dance-caller par excellence) once said OT (stringband) music IS fiddle music.

After I started playing fiddle several years ago it's like it reprogrammed my brain to take a different approach to my banjo playing. When playing banjo after learning fiddle I started paying more attention to the details and hearing things I didn't before. For many people, playing fiddle will make you a better banjo player. Now I play more fiddle than banjo.

I haven't touched it in a couple of years, since a bad bout of bursitis, but I love playing the fiddle. And I agree that my banjo, and also my guitar, playing improved after playing the fiddle.
