Hey! I just thought I'd show yall the 2 latest mountain banjos I made.
the design came after some hard thought, discussion with friends, and some inspiration from shiner beer I decided on the prickly pear and a few things that make Texas great.
I think it's the prickliest banjo I've ever picked, and both sound awesome!
Both of these banjos were made at the same time with the same walnut board (and some of the same red oak boards as well) .
The pot measures 1.5'' in height with 3/4'' top and bottom plates.
Oh, and they use deer skin I tanned myself, and it worked out well compared to the goatskin I used to get off amazon!

Try moving the bridge to the center of the head.

OldNavyGuy I will definitely need too! I have a sound file on instagram of one I built awhile ago (instagram.com/p/CjYMs7AAHXK/) But both the sound of these and my playing has improved since then haha
Helix Thank you! They're really fun to make, I don't understand why bigger banjo companies make some crazier designs (since they're all using CNCs, which I do as well). The one in my avatar was made as a dedication to the town I'm from! I want to make another like it but using some locally grown wood (my aunt recently cut a big oak down so I'm gonna steal a few chunks and get them milled, hopefully they'll be solid enough).
lapsteel The bridges are placed at the 25.5'' marker, which makes sure the inlay placements are properly intonated. the Texas symbols are centered at the fret positions and the prickly pear has special features at the fret positions (the flowers mark the 3rd fret and so on..)
