A few hours early. But the sun rises earlier over here. (Not so you'd notice.) This is my Thanksgiving choice for Banjototw for the 25th November 2023.

The tune is a modern fiddle tune, written by Jay Ungar of Ashokan Farewell fame. At least that means there's little history to document!

There are fiddle and ensemble recordings all over YouTube.

Here is a very sweet guitar and squeezebox version, which helped understand the structure a bit more, though it is very simple, AABB, with each part being short.

I learned it by ear, and couldn't make the fiddle ornamentations work for me .

But I'd like you to have a lovely holiday, if you celebrate Thanksgiving, and maybe learn and record this lovely relaxed piece of music after that second piece of pumpkin pie ??....

Wow, that's a tune I had completely forgotten about. I had to follow the link to my Youtube page to review it. I realized I had never tabbed it out before. I had to relearn it to come up with a simple tab. There are quite a few skip notes. In the video I'm playing in C, but it's actually a D tune.

A beautiful tune you've chosen and played, Andy. And Pat, your playing is always pretty.  The shadow on your shirt looks like you've grown a long beard.



Thanksgiving Waltz was a challenge to work on, with its odd meter. I thought it was crooked, but found it isn't. I'm reminded of the style of a Scandinavian dance tune.
