I recently discovered the playing of Andrew Norcross, who played a few sets and offered a workshop as part of the Berkeley Old-Time Music festival.
He plays a beautiful, lyrical, rhythmic style influenced by Kyle Creed and Marc Olitsky. Uses a semi-fretless instrument he built himself (he used to have something of a name as a banjo builder, though he doesn't do it anymore).
Apparently he played banjo on an album in the early 2000s or 2010s called "Light and Hitch." The album is no longer available anywhere that I can find and when I asked him, Andrew basically said, "ask your friends if they have a copy."
Anyone got a copy of this album? I'd love to hear it.

My all time favorite oldtime album! Seriously amazing playing by all involved, especially the twin fiddling. The banjo sound is crazy, unique, and awesome on this album. I have a copy but I played it so much that it got worn out and now skips :( at least I was able to burn it onto my old computer (also now dead) and put it on my ipod before the CD died! I've blasted it a few times at high volume here in Santiago- luckily my neighbors here love hearing US oldtime music :) I bought my copy from the CD vendor at Clifftop back in 2017 (John?) Hope you find someone who is able to share this gem with you.

I have a recording of them (and others, maybe -I didn't know who they were at the time) playing Shuffle About one night at the Rockbridge Music & Dance Festival, I think it was 2010. Andrew Norcross on banjo. It's fun to listen to them learning the tune on the fly. He was driving a bio-fuel truck that he had made and smelled like french fries, or "freedom fries," as they were once known.

Tony, thank you for posting that recording!
I suppose I could post a recording of the workshop with Andrew (I recorded it) but that feels to me like it might not be fair to Andrew - plus it's a huge file. If I can edit it down I'll share just the part where he plays the tune "Liberty."
