I've played many tunes with Bobby over the years and know Ken. They of course sound great together. Kind of a hand in glove sound.

If you listen to what Ken does, it is very similar to what he did when playing Alan Jabbour. He will play the melody and then play a backup approach, then rephrase the melody in a higher or lower octave. His approach is very thoughtful and deliberate. He does not look quite as comfortable here as he did with Alan, but then they had played together a great deal. I sense they are still getting acquainted with each other stylistically.

I had the pleasure of seeing Ken perform once a bunch of years ago in upstate New York. He played wonderful and complicated stuff for over an hour. Not even one mistake, incredible stuff on both the banjo and the guitar and a real nice guy to boot.

Ken was a very early influence on me. He had an an album out on kicking mule, vinyl, maybe 1981 or so. I don’t remember which one, but I learned every tune on that album. Some pretty complicated stuff. Ran into him about the same time I had the tunes figured out. He was kind enough to sit with me and listen while I played him a half dozen or so if the tunes I learned off his album. Gave me some solid playing advice.

This is wonderful, two great masters. Ken is in a class by himself in duet with a fiddle player, his Southern Summits CD is my favorite fiddle/banjo duet album.
