I guess there's no question that Winston contributed to the band's sound and success. The question is how difficult would it be to bring in somebody who could reproduce that style (if you could call it that). Pretty easy I would think.

When I first heard the clumsy opening guitar riffs in “Wish You Were Here” back in the day I thought “well, there goes the musical neighbourhood “. Pop music never appealed much to me after that, other than a very few highlights, and it became controlled by big corporations that manipulated radio presence. Low talent bands were hyped and became hugely “successful”, imho.

Wish You Were Here is pop music? A bit like Earl Scruggs and his bland country music (by way of illustration).
