Here is a video showing all and only J.D.. You can see and hear every bit of back up great. And see his hands wonderfully.  This video to me is priceless: first for its beauty, tribute, and nostalgia and 2nd for the study of Mr J.D. Crowe. Mr. Tom Adler showed me this clip. What a good man! Thank you Mr. Adler!

Enjoy and treasure the treasure of Mr. J.D. Crowe.

I was suspicious: Nah, it can't be that great. I was wrong. It's that great.

Treasure, for sure.

(Three different banjos in the earlier part, and you can't tell the difference.  It's all Mr. JD.)

Ken,

Thanks for posting the JD video link.

I ran across this clip awhile back and watched it several times. I watched it again just now, and each time I watch it I pick up a few moves or transitional phrases or licks. I’m sure I’ll watch it again!

JD was one slick, smooth, and cool banjo picker and that’s a fact!

A rare recorded treasure, and of immense instructional value, no doubt.

(Speaking of that first song...another rare recorded treasure I didn't know about too long ago—this one is only audio, from a hotel room—has Lester Flatt singing it alone [3 mins in], among other things. Here it is: youtu.be/95GA-QbCxeg

That is a great and very special recording. You should have posted it under its own title and it could have & would have generated its own conversation without being in conflict with another subject. smiley

Ah, but I think someone can combine these two videos, with that first song, watch J.D. playing and then try what he's doing with Lester backing it up. I wasn't trying to start a conversation ;]
