For those interested, here's a link to A.J. Srubas playing slower renditions from his repertoire. I've always preferred to learn from fiddling, and I know some others do too.

Enormously helpful to have the guitar accompaniment there as well. I found myself eyeballing the chord changes more than anything.

Yes, AJ and Rina did a great job on Friday’s Slow Jam Fizz! They're great folks as well as terrific musicians.
For those who don’t know about it, Slow Jam Fizz was created and is hosted by my wife Maxine Gerber and myself. All jams are free, but tipping the leaders is highly encouraged! Each jam is led by different musicians, many of whom are well-known, and they happen live on Zoom and are simultaneously streamed to YouTube, where most of the jams are archived (with leaders' permission) and accessible later as well as live - and you can even slow them down or speed them up if you're watching the archived jams!
Slow Jam Fizz is currently happening twice a month, and we'll be on that schedule through May, and then we’ll take a 3-month break (June, July, and August) during the busy summer. We will likely start up again in September, but may change it to a once-a-month schedule at that point. You can find out more about Slow Jam Fizz through the Berkeley Old-Time Music website at this link:

Here’s a link to the full archive of (so far) 29 past Slow Jam Fizz sessions - you may well find some of your favorite musicians leading a jam!):

Enjoy!

I was about to edit my post about Slow Jam Fizz to add a bit of info, but BHO timed out my 10-minute editing window (which I really find annoying).
Anyway, I was going to add that Slow Jam Fizz sessions happen (currently) on second and fourth Fridays from 5:30pm to 6:30pm PDT. The next one happens Friday, April 8th, and our leaders will be Jim and Joyce Cauthen from Birmingham, Alabama. Jim and Joyce have a great repertoire of Alabama tunes, including many not well-known, and Joyce wrote the book - literally! - on Alabama fiddling! She's the author of "With Fiddle and Well-Rosined Bow: A History of Old-Time Fiddling in Alabama". This will be a great jam with fun and friendly leaders, and an opportunity to learn some new and unusual tunes! We hope to see you there.

These are great. Just found them today based on a recommendation from Bill Rogers.
I know it would be more work, but having a song listing, maybe with time stamps would be extra helpful. Not complaining....this is exactly what I've been looking for so I can play banjo with a fiddler and really try to learn by ear, too.

Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying them! As far as providing tune listings and time stamps, though it would be handy, this would be a lot of work, and the whole project is a labor of love for Maxine and me. We don't get paid to do it, and we don't take a cut of the tips either, which all go directly to the leaders, who are cheerfully and generously providing such a great service. Between booking the leaders, doing advance sound checks to assure the best audio with the least technical glitches, maintaining the large and growing mailing list (well over 600 people at last count - who knew!), and writing and sending out each jam announcement and followup note, it's already a fair amount of work (of which Maxine is doing the lion's share, to give credit where credit is due). But if you or anyone else who enjoys the jams feels like compiling tune listings and/or time stamps, we would be happy to include those in our followup emails and YouTube descriptions. Also, sometimes the leaders provide a tune list in advance, and post it on the Slow Jam Fizz Facebook page.
I hope to see you at some future Slow Jam Fizz sessions - though I don't actually know your name, since it's not in your profile! But you can always mention who you are in the live chat, which we monitor for the leaders so they don't have to follow it unless they want to. And enjoy the archived sessions as well - there's a wealth of great tunes to learn there!

We had the same thought. When I watch one why don't I build out the list myself?
Thank you,
