I'm offering a one-hour Zoom workshop on Saturday, March 26th at 4pm Eastern. I will discuss how to convert clawhammer arrangements to two-finger arrangements. I first taught this workshop at the Old Town School of Folk Music in 2009 or 2010, and have been meaning to offer it again ever since!

I'll provide tablature beforehand and then share a video of the entire workshop after it concludes. Feel free to sign up even if you can't join at the appointed time! Registration is $20 (but admission is free for my Patreon supporters at the $10/month tier and above). Email me to sign up: matt@brownsdream.us

Let me know if you have any questions!

Matt is a talented teacher with an appreciative following at the Louisville Folk School in his short time there.

Excellent idea! When I first picked up a banjo I played clawhammer for awhile. Then I switched over to 2ftl and discovered after a while that I could take some of the simple clawhammer tabs I had and convert them to 2ftl style. Certainly expands the repetoire of of easy two finger songs to learn.

Thank you David!

And yeah, we can open up a world of possibilities by converting at least the easier clawhammer pieces over to two-finger. A lot of them do work well, some do not. A big topic but a fun one for sure.

I have a question though. I don’t play clawhammer, but want to learn 2 finger style. Would this zoom class help, or shall I look around for other instruction? Thanks!

talljoey, you might find it more useful to check out my free two-finger banjo instructional site, then: twofingerbanjo.com/. There are video lessons accompanied by tablature. Let me know if you have any questions about them!

Thanks for asking,
Matt

Great! Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I will definitely check that site out.
Best to you,
Joey
