A little bit of banjo history seems appropriate today. This is the very first Rich and Taylor Sonny Osborne model. Originally made as a prototype of the "Carolina" model, it was given as an endorsement to Joe Mullins. He asked Sonny to take it to get some fretwork done on it, and when it came back Sonny had had a block put in the neck with his name on it, and signed the label. It officially "left" the R+T factory several months after it had first been given to Joe as a prototype. Thereafter, it was Joe's main banjo for years, and he recorded much of the Traditional Grass material on it. I first met Joe (my all-time banjo hero!) in 2001. We got chatting about the banjo, one thing led to another, and I've been the very proud owner of it ever since. It's one of a very few R+Ts here in the UK.
