I inserted a blank measure before the first measure of one of my tablatures, so that I could add some pickup notes to begin the song. However, after inserting the new measure and adding the pickup notes, when I place the cursor at the beginning of that new first measure and click on the "play" icon, instead of playing the new pickup notes in the new first measure, it starts playing on the first note of the second measure.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if you know what I may be doing wrong that won't allow the program to play the notes in the inserted, new first measure?
I'm using version 3.01 a3c of Tabledit.

Check your reading list. I haven't used TablEdit in a long time but I seem to recall that the reading list had some funny issues when you added or subtracted measures.

Thanks trapdoor2. I had never used the Tabledit reading list feature, so I was unfamiliar with it. That was what was causing the problem.

It is probably something about the reading list., or the non-existence of the reading list.
I tried to make an extra "pick-up measure" in an existing tab with a reading list, and the result was that there was an extra measure added to the first part of the tune and not as a pick-up measure.
I think you should learn about the reading list and try to use it.

Hi Wayne,
Have you updated your version of Tabledit? I tried inserting a measure at measure one and if worked fine. You do have to put something in there but it will play the pick up measure that was just added; for me at least. How did you go about adding that extra measure?...Jack

Jack:
I downloaded and installed the latest version of Tabledit (Ver. 3.01 a4). I executed the same edit procedure that I was using with my previous version (Ver. 3.01 a3c) and I got the same result.
The edit procedure I'm using is as follows:
1. I place the cursor in the first measure
2. I select "Edit Measures" from the "Edit" drop down menu
3. I enter "1" in the "From Measure" field and "1" in the "To Measure" field
4. I click on the "Insert" button to create the new first measure
5. I create the desired notes in the new first measure
6. I place the cursor at the beginning of the new first measure and click "Play"
Before I do the edit, the reading list window displays: [01] 1-33. After I do the edit, the reading list displays [01] 2-34.
After the edit, If I create a new reading list ( [01] 1-34 ), it plays correctly.

Hi Wayne,
I think it's easier than what you're doing.
Look at the very top left of your tab where your palettes are and you'll see a rectangle box with a plus + sign which adds a measure if you put your cursor in the 1st measure. To test it, type in a few random notes and save it to see if it works...tell me if that works....Jack

Thanks for that suggestion. I had never paid attention to that feature of the Tool palette. That is definitely easier than what I've been doing.
However, I played around with a couple of my tabs, and here's what I found.
With either editing method, if there is a reading list, the act of doing the edit causes the reading list to be revised, so that it excludes the new, added first measure and that's why the new first measure does not get played. If there is no reading list, either editing method allows all of the edited tablature to be played.
The good news for me is that now I know a little more about Tabledit than I did before. Thanks to all for the help!

Hi Wayne,
Yeah,
The reading list is very tricky at times. I only use it for repeats and codas del signos etc....glad I could help though...

RB3,
Do you think it would make more sense to automatically have 1-34? It is very feasible.

Matthieu:
I don't use the reading list feature, so I'm unfamiliar with all of ramifications of using it, so I'm not sure that I'm qualified to offer an opinion.
