I stumbled upon Joel Hooks' article "Getting the Most From Nylon Strings" while struggling to get a cleaner sound from two banjos (a short-scale and a fretless)built from Randy Cordle's Mountain Banjo Nouveau concept. I made these bridges in just a few minutes from quarter-sawn basswood, and the improvement is amazing. Much brighter. Also made one for my mish-mash Buckbee parts banjo, and now I can't put these instruments down.

Cool! The banjos and bridges look great! I think a bridge change out is the best bang for ones buck in the banjo world! Even more cost effective when you build them yourself. Great job. Brian M

I just installed Nylgut strings on my Pre-Deering Vega. I used a bridge that came with my Prust tackhead fretless. Eric ships three bridges with his banjos So the owner can compensate for changes in moisture. Since I live in SoCal that hasn’t been an issue.
