In an archived thread mention is made of TablEdit being able to open TabRite tabs (.gui, .bjo, etc.) but that teh free TablEdit Viewer called TefView could NOT open TabRite files.
This is no longer true and the latest version (and probably a number of past versions now) CAN open TabRite files.
The old thread can be seen here: banjohangout.org/archive/198195
The latest TefView can be downloaded from here: tabledit.com/tefview/download.shtml
Enjoy.

Downloaded and will not open tabrite files properly.
Do I have to uninstall the older version and reload?

If the new installation did not simply replace the old one — which is what happens on a Mac when you correct install in the Appkications folder — then it’s probably a good idea to do as you suggest and make sure you have only the new one running.
If the Tabrite files still won’t open, then the original message could be in error.

Hi Steve,
Nice to hear that you're well and active. My advice to the people that come on here all the time is to simply buy the full program whether it's for Macs or PCs. $65.00 is certainly reasonable for a life time of not getting crappy watermarks etc. when you open a tab...Jack

I'm afraid I have no experience of the usage of TablEdit or TefView on Apple machines as I am a Windows user (now on Windows-10 Ver.1903).
On a Windows version of TefView you go to the Open dialogue from the File menu at the top of the screen. This will open the Dialogue to open files in TefView. At the bottom of the window it shows an entry field for the File name and on the right-hand side of that field it has a small 'pull-down' menu which defines the file-types that will be displayed in the files window and which will be opened by the software. By default this is set to "TablEdit (.tef, .tab, .cat). Pulling it down allows you to choose file types of MusicXML, Guitar Pro (3, 4, 5, X), PowerTab, TabRite and/or Bucketo'Tab.
See screen-grabs below.
Hope that helps at least a little.
Steve.

Hi Jack,
Yes, I'm fine thanks. Good to see you are too !!!!
I would agree that the best thing to do is to purchase the FULL version of TablEdit (Matthieu has recently added some nice new features) but not everybody feels the same and many would prefer to merely use the freebie and reduced feature set that TefView provides. It is an excellent viewer for TablEdit (and other tab program) files but doesn't provide the abilities of the full TablEdit - I suppose not everyone wants to produce their own arrangements and/or compositions and merely wish to play files they can download from the Net. And there is nothing wrong in that BUT it doesn't support the developer (Matthieu) to produce more and better versions of both programs for guitarists worldwide.

The FULL TabRite program and the manual (and also the TABView) program can be obtained as a free download from here:
bluegrassbanjo.org/tabrite.html
Please note: There is no longer any support for this program as the authors are no longer available on teh Net.
