I remember reading this years ago. It was about a new college student who took his banjo but the only thing anybody ever wanted to hear was "dueling banjos" or the theme from "Beverly hillbillies". I'd like the text but Google can't seem to find it.

It was published in an OLD Bluegrass Unlimited magazine, perhaps in the 1960s. Before the magazine got a glossy cover I think. I remember reading it when it came out.

If you have a copy of Pete Wernick's "Bluegrass Banjo" it's in the back of that.

I have it somewhere in an old BU, I'll look.

The poem, 'Paul's Banjo' was written by Cherrill Heaton and was about Paul Champion's banjo.

Author: Cherrill Heaton

Published in Bluegrass Unlimited October 1968

I remember Cherrill telling me that Paul was leery of printing the actual number of his banjo, so Cherrill used the FON number from his own banjo.

Thanks Frank, I enjoy seeing that again. That line "forty flecks of hearts & flowers" really impressed me when I was a teenager. I'd never SEEN a real live hearts & flowers Mastertone back then, only bowties.

Thanks Frank. I haven't checked back in a while, sorry about the delay in my gratitude. Nevertheless it is heartfelt.
