I built a Carver Fretless Mountain banjo kit 4 yrs ago. I had a blast, it was very easy, and I like the sound of the instrument. I have a teenage friend who also built the same kit; his turned out very nice, also. Brian no longer offers that exact kit, but I'd trust any of his kits to be as much fun, and be easy to build. I also have his Whyte-Ladie banjo (which he builds himself, no kit), and I like that banjo very much. I believe he sells a kit a day (this was couple years ago), so he must be doing something right :-)

Thanks for the report, Brooks. I see them in your avatar picture. Looks like they'd be fun to build. I'm looking at either the kit by Brian, or ordering on of Eric Prust's banjos. Still haven't made my mind up for sure. Do you have any experience with Eric's banjos? I hear really good things about them on here.

I built a Carver gourd banjo kit and I was very happy with it. It's mostly sand, finish and assembly, but the banjo has a sweet sound and it was a lot of fun to build.
