I heard that Mac Wiseman passed away. If anyone is able, will you please post an article concerning this. I think we as a banjo community should definitely honor him. But I do not know how to post a story. Does anyone know how to maybe post a story from Bluegrass today.com? Thank you for your help.

I was privileged to hang out with Mac and Bill Monroe for a day in London (1973) it was so great listening to them talking about old times - wish I'd had a tape recorder running!

it always hurts some when these legends pass on. Like a venerable old building that's torn down. whats left is a gaping hole .

The world definitely lost one of the greats. I recently purchased a Mac Wiseman and Merle Haggard album titled Timeless off ebay. Here is a song from that album;

Yeah, Gary, It does hurt. Monroe, Duffy, Stanley, Waller,Scruggs...way  too many to name. They were foundations of beauty,soul, and excellence for us. Yes, a gaping hole that cannot be filled. Well said.

I was playing banjo on stage with Mac the night my daughter was born in 1981. Our guitar player was a surgeon and he was in touch with the Ob/Gyn at the hospital, so he was announcing my wife's cm's of dilation during our set. I made it to the hospital in time to finish coaching my wife through delivery. She was a little bit miffed because I had not been with her, but hey...I got to play a show with Mac Wiseman!!

The stories about Mac picking up musicians for a show are legendary. At one point a buddy of mine was thinking about having some Tee shirts made up with the Logo - "I backed Mac." I personally know many musicians, myself included, who at some point got a call asking if they would be inclined to do a show in the area with/for Mac Wiseman, backing him up with whomever could do the show. Of course, we all jumped at the chance. (maybe I'll throw in the word "once.") I'll stop right there .... before I say something I shouldn't!! Ha ha!! It would serve no useful purpose to elaborate or pontificate!!

Bronx banjo that's an interesting point! I can't think of a single Foggy Mt. Boy left, but perhaps someone will correct me. Unlike the Blue Grass Boys, the Foggy Mt. Boys remained a fairly "small" group over their 21 years.



I suppose one might count Gary Scruggs though? The last one?
