I only get to go to Clifftop about every five or six years so I planned this in advance. I rented a car and drove all over the east coast visiting friends and relatives and my trek to Clifftop. Well now I am in southern Pennsylvania and expect to arrive in Clifftop tomorrow and set up camp for four or five days of old time heaven. Regrettably the national weather service is calling for a week of heavy rain, thunder and lightening days and nights. I can't imagine what a mudhole Clifftop will be in those conditions let alone what all that moisture and humidity will do for hide headed banjos. Drat!

Chad,
I just hope that by the time the next 5 years fly by, this 68 year old won't have angel wings to assst me in flight!

We tent camped in Gettysburg in May. Poured the entire time, no picking at all, everything leaked and on the last night I got food poisoning.

But, despite all that... my wife and I had a blast. And we laugh now. Sometimes it’s all in what you make it.

Would I make it again? Hmmmmm.

"tune up the 5-string …

tighten up the hide …

tell all the young folks to get inside...

we'll make music 'till the rafters ring...

old men pickin' and a sawing on the strings."

Just returned this evening after 8 days there (including one full day spent waiting in line, which was also pretty fun). Left my hide head on my second banjo until Tuesday, and then gave in and put a spare Renaissance head on I took just in case. It was treated and also waxed, but started to make me nuts so I caved and took it off. I'll put it back on now that I'm home again though. Drove 6 hours home through a lot of rain.... Had a great time, awesome music.

I have a John Balch hide head on my OME. Ten days at Clifftop and I had to tighten it only once. John's heads are really good!
