Well evidently this week’s volunteer is busy doing some last minute Christmas shopping, so I will post a very quick emergency back-up tune. That tune is ‘Blue Goose’, which comes to us from northeastern Kentucky fiddler Buddy Thomas.

Buddy Thomas tunes are always a challenge for me to play, but listening to them is a pleasure.  Here's my attempt at this tune from a couple of years ago.  Perhaps after Christmas it would be worthwhile to work on it again.  Liner notes by Mark Wilson in the CD Buddy Thomas, Kitty Puss, Old-Time Fiddle Music from Kentucky give details about Buddy's life.  Fiddle music was his passion, though he tragically died young, at 39 years old.

Blue Goose is a fun little tune. It's fairly rare for my crowd to settle on a version that is "significantly" different from the source but after much serious discussion we chose the Rhys Jones version with the IV chords in the B part and so that's what my banjo tab is based on. If your fiddle friends like the Buddy Thomas version you'll have to drop those C chords.
