My only experience with Nylguts is low-tuned and fretless, which is also how I often hear them. If anyone has links to OT tunes played at standard pitch on a fretted banjo, I would love to hear them.

I've done most of my recording recently with nylgut strings (except on the fourth string). Here's a sampling. The first one includes both my Mac Traynham Whyte Laydie openback and the Gold Tone cello banjo, which also has nylgut strings. I like their more mellow sound.

Here is an example. The banjo has an 11.5" rim, 26" scale, fretted, and medium Nylguts tuned to double D (no capo). I really like the new medium Nylguts. I had them tuned up to double D for over six months with no issues. And I love the sound.

Bart Reiter White Laydie, 26 1/4" scale. New Nylgut Classic (Cream-colored with a red 4th string). gDGBD tuning.
BTW, I regularly tune these up to A or double D. No problem. No nut modification, though I found that the slots in my Kat Eyz bridge were too shallow. Rather than carve on the fine bridge, I switched to a Moon. Worked like a dream.

I haven't recorded anything with all Nylgut strings tuned up, but this Snowdrop has the first string tuned up to E. At least you can hear what that one sounds like.

One of my friends has several tunes posted here on her BHO home page. She lists the banjo used and tuning on most, all done on banjos with the all white Nylgut formulation.
