Not sure where to put this so I'll try here. I've been unable to install TABrite on my laptop. I get the message "can't install or update files while shared files are in use" or something to that effect and that's the end of the road. Has anybody run into this? I don't have a clue. I've got Win 10 so could that be it?

I don't know whether Tabrite will work on Windows 10 or not.  Usually, when you have a problem installing it, it's the tt font that causes the problem.  Have you put the font into your font folder?

Another solution:  do you have Tabledit, the paid version?  If so, it will convert .bjo files to .tef.  

And, FYI:  I'm moving this to the tab forum where those who use tab read a lot and maybe one of them will have an answer for you.

You might try this after you've installed the software:  Go to windows explorer and find the tabwin41 directory, highlight the TAB fonts and drag them to the Fonts directory.    My bad, it was the TAB fonts, not the TT fonts (it's been a long time since I've installed Tabrite so I got it wrong).

The above instructions were for a much older type computer, so you may have to mess around and find the tabwin folder in your programs file and then locate the fonts from that. 

If that doesn't work, then I'd get Tabledit.  It's worth every penny of what they are asking for it.

You might try one of the 3 fixes described in the link below for Windows 7. It seems this can be a problem for installing software or running Windows Update. It seems that the 3rd suggestion (runing msconf) helped one person, while the first suggestion (using REGEDIT) helped another.

I have used TabRite on several computers with several versions of Windows. It was installed on my desktop when I upgraded to Windows 10 and I had no problem. I also installed it with no issues on my laptop with Windows 10 already installed. The installation went fine and I didn't encounter your problem.

I did have a different problem on this laptop when TabRite wouldn't launch. I followed a hint from a workmate who suggested I try to open an existing TabRite file. This worked. I describe the process here: banjohangout.org/archive/320120

I offer this just in case you find a solution to your installation problem.

Thanks for the help. I finally got TABrite installed (actually, the problem was me. doh). I just want it to open some .bjo files. What is the advantage of using Tabledit? I don't know that I'll be trying to write tabs anytime soon.
