Two hornpipes to cast away the chill of winter. Unless you're in Florida or some other warm area of the world. Please excuse the quick transition between the two; the Glenbeigh triplets gave me hell! Also, note that in The Galway HP, I play a C natural. Usually, I hear a C sharp played instead but it's how I learned and like it. As for the sweatshirt? Hey.....you KNOW what is coming next weekend!
Here is a perky melodeon version(followed by the Harvest Home HP):

And here is a clear and stripped-down version of Glenbeigh on octave mando:

Hope to hear one or two of your takes!

Good Job Wayne. These hornpipes turn out to be rather harder than they look. My approach to the back to back triplets was to miss them out - too much else to think about what with this crazy rhythm - give me a Jig anyday

Good job James and I agree, as hornpipe said go, these are a little demanding.

Nice one James! I've been remiss learning hornpipes lately so I must give these two a go!

The Galway Hornpipe has been on my 'to learn' list for a while, so this has been an excellent excuse! I'm getting there with the Glenbeigh, and will try to make a video before the end of the month. Thanks for the suggestions Wayne, and great playing Wayne and James!

And at this point, I think it's only appropriate that I refer to my sweatshirt comment in the original post here. Sorry, but we are a nation!

Just curious when doing those run of triplets in the Galway...Do most of you follow Enda's method with DUD DUD or do you do DUD UDU? I like the bounce I get with DUD DUD but it is definitely harder to do fast on runs like these.
BobGooday - Posted - 02/13/2017: 04:05:22
I use DUD UDU almost exclusively for jigs and hornpipe triplets. It makes it a lot easier to play them quickly, and I feel makes them 'flow' better.

What Bob says underlines a reality; there are no hard fast rules.
One thing I would recommend is that when you have a series of back-to-back triplets then I would use DUDUDUDU. For example, the notes at the half mark of the A part that go down from the open E string: E/F/E/D/C#/B etc.

Sorry, I never referenced the tune for the triplet example I used. It was the Galway hornpipe. Same sequence occurs in the Harvest Home hornpipe as well.

A day late, but I got ambitious and added the pick up notes and triplet run a few days ago. However, I failed to get the triplet run smooth enough, especially with the camera on.

Rocksolid picking here! Timing was dead on.
