I was sick of flimsy fishing line strings on my 12" pot Deering Americana, with goat skin head and maple only 2 leg bridge. I'm not much of a clawhammer picker, I'm bluegrass guy. But I like a little thumping now and then, and I like the very dark tones for my meager clawhammer skills. I Love the tone and I'm not raking the first string out of the bridge as I did with fishing line set. While they did stretch a lot tuning up, now that they are tuned up, they're actually holding better than the fishing line strings. I installed medium super nylguts. What a great sounding banjo that I can't do justice to now. I'd recommend anyone wanting to try them to pony up the money, they sure sound great and feel great to the hand.

I use medium Super Nylgut, too, and absolutely love them! Try tuning them up another 1/2 step and see what you think.
