Bringing in a brand new year with two jigs. Have fun! And remember.....don't drink and pick!

And here are both tunes done nicely by an Irish man, Joe Greene, who is part of a duo I enjoy listening to: Dulahan.

Thanks Wayne, nice selection. I look forward to learning Hag at the Churn as my first tune of the year.

Nice job Wayne! This tune was one of the first ones I stumbled across on YouTube that made me want to try to learn Irish Tenor. Here's that video . This kid's triplets are so right. He's now quite a few years older and is still playing wonderfully - Darragh Carey-Kennedy.

I'm not sure how happy I am with these two as a set, based on the titles.

I think my favorite Irish tune title might be I Buried My Wife And Danced On Her Grave!

I have run across him on YouTube as well. Not sure I heard him do this one but he is really good!

Some classic hornpipe playing there, Myles -- I haven't seen videos of him since he was a kid; he has a really nice sound.

Great stuff Wayne. I could only manage one tune so here is Hag at the Churn with a 50% hit rate on the triplets!
ruraltradpunk - Posted - 01/03/2017: 14:59:24
Lovely versions there James, and My Darling Asleep has great bounce to it, very lively!
captbanjo - Posted - 01/03/2017: 20:20:36
So, these are good James. I have the same issues; sometimes you get a decent recording of one and second one, not so much. Nothing wrong with two completely separate tracks, especially considering how well you pulled them off.

Thanks folks.
I tried to channel a bit of Marla Fibish into the "My darling asleep" Jill. I learnt the tune from her - I've been signed up to her Irish mandolin course on peg head nation for a couple of months. I'm not going to be able to have lessons from her in person like you have, but its the next best thing.
DSmoke - Posted - 01/11/2017: 11:03:28
I sat down to learn Hag at the Churn today, here is a nice un-ornamented version on the mandolin that I used.
captbanjo - Posted - 01/11/2017: 12:12:24
Dan, I remember coming across that video back when I was trying to learn it. I know I got some of the setting from there. Nice, straightforward approach makes it easy to learn. Wish that guy had done more videos!
For the sake of the titles alone, I need to learn 'Old Hag, You Have Killed Me' along with 'I Buried My Wife and Danced On Her Grave'.

Well, after recovering from shoulder surgery and learning the tune, physical therapy made it impossible to play for a few weeks. I am glad to say yesterday I was finally able to play almost pain free, a feeling I never experienced in the 3 years I've been playing. And, to top it off, I can now play a long scale so I recorded it on my 1926 Vegaphone Professional that I've been working on. So here we go, winding back the clock to January:

Way to go Dan! Welcome back (cue John Sebastian 70's Kotter show theme)!

Not sure I understand what that means. I would love to see your take on one of the TOTM.
LakeMonster - Posted - 02/08/2017: 16:19:50
Here's mine. A few days late, but these were both new tunes to me so had to learn them. Played on my hot-rodded deering goodtime 17 fret tenor.

I'll tell you Matt, for having not known these, what an outstanding job!
